SUPERB AND IMPORTANT CERAMIC SCULPTURE depicting an OLD MAN IN A TURBAN, SEATED AND LEANING ON HIS WALKING STICK.
This is certainly a representation of the biblical character ABRAHAM
Very beautiful enamel playing at the same time:
* on shades of sea green to blue gray for his coat, from beige to caramel brown for his tunic, or from ivory to cream for skin,
* but also on the matte parts (bearded face and hands), and shiny.
The rocky base on which the character is seated is still treated differently, more from streaks and stains. We will particularly notice the work of the folds and wrinkles of the skin of the old man's hands, or even the very fine details of his beard.
Two fabulous touches of blue green illuminate the character's gaze, whose bent posture and head resting on his walking stick effectively suggest extreme fatigue.
An unidentified mark under the statue with a monogram TP or HP - in reserve in light beige on a brown background, remains to be identified; It would not be surprising if the ceramist was known given the very nice quality of enameling. Note that I found the photo of a ceramic sculpture of the exact same subject, but less successful, and for which the author was also unidentified
