"17th Century Baroque Sideboard, Circa 1650, A Great Rarity"
Baroque sideboard-cabinet from the 17th century, around 1650, a great rarity, bluffing! with a ring structure, in three parts, consisting of two pieces of furniture with two doors of different heights with drawers in the middle, surmounted by a profiled upper cornice and supported by four semicircular legs at the front. The sides, doors and drawer faces, the base, are decorated with rectangular cushions, profiled on the edges, while the facade on the sides and in the center is made of carved wood, interrupted by twisted pilasters and putto sculptures, each with a different attribute, and in the finial, a coat of arms, a crown on maple leaves in steel of castles, applied to mortise, single beam; Baroque double-body cabinets were made in the Netherlands and Gdańsk between 1650 and 1670. They were used to store various objects. Cabinets of this type were luxurious and expensive pieces of furniture, indicating the wealth of the house. The furniture in question is characterized by an archaic two-body structure, common in the Renaissance, which was slowly replaced by a single-body structure in the Baroque period. However, the cabinet has decorations typical of the Baroque style, with profiled cornices and cushions. It is decorated with precious ebony walnut and rosewood veneers typical of furniture made in this region of Europe. The sides of the cabinet are straight in oak. The architectural division of the facade shows its perfect proportions. Condition: very good original condition!!! of course, visible traces of use, which is normal, the lower strip has been repaired here and there, on the walnut you can see the traces of a knocker that has not worked for years. Dimensions: length 180 cm, depth 67 cm, height 195 cm I recommend the piece of furniture at a very attractive price, it is worth the investment, museum-class furniture!!!
