Object description :

"Jacob Frères, Exceptional Pair Of Stamped Chairs From The Consulate-empire Period. "
Very rare pair of chairs stamped Jacob Frères rue Meslée, delivered under the Consulate to Mrs. Catherine-Marie-Jeanne Lamy, née Tallard (1772-1825).
Often compared to Juliette Récamier, she was also painted by Jacques-Louis David, whose portrait is kept in the Louvre.
This model of high-end mahogany chairs has a magnificent back in lemon tree, ebony and lacquered wood, whose sculptures take the appearance of bows, arrows and quivers.

Another element reserved for prestigious models, the ringed front legs. Invented by Georges Jacob at the very end of the 18th century, his sons were the only ones to produce this type of legs, also called "imitation bamboo", always on prestigious chairs and armchairs.

Very beautiful state of conservation, perfect stability, without reinforcement.

Upholstered with a superb horsehair fabric.

Each chair has a delivery label and is stamped JACOB FRÈRES RUE MESLÉE (corresponding to the period 1796-1803 during which the two Jacob brothers, sons of Georges – Georges II and François-Honoré-Georges – collaborated).

Consulate period. Circa 1796-1803

Provenance: Lamy descendants and succession.

Dimensions:
Height 87 cm
Width 44 cm
Depth 44 cm
