Isidore Dagnan (1794-1873), born in Marseille, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the tutelage of Jacques-Louis David. His career was marked by regular participation in the Paris Salon, where he received the esteem of his peers and the public. A respected artist of his time, Dagnan distinguished himself with his portraits and historical scenes, obtaining several official commissions that consolidated his reputation in the artistic world of the 19th century.
