"Large Ridge Spike With “soulaud” Puisaye Sandstone"
Finial depicting a drunkard sitting on his barrel on which is written "There are more old drunkards than old doctors". On the other side of the barrel is written "Atelier de la Canerie" and on the bottom of the barrel the brand of the canerie, workshop of Jean-Claude Seguin and Sabine Seguin-Karakos established in Saint-Vérain (Nièvre). This 79 cm high finial is in perfect condition. The inside diameter of the barrel is 23 cm. Jean-Claude Seguin (born in 1954) began his training at the Poterie NAULT in Saint-Amand en Puysaie in 1972/74 then at MALLET in 1974/75. There he met Sabine Karakos (born in 1961) who became his partner. Together, in 1980 they created the workshop "La Rainette" in Myennes (Nièvre) in the former Poterie PILLARD. In 1983, they set up a new workshop in the former mill of La Canerie in St Vérain. There they fashion unique pieces and sculptures inspired by traditional pieces from Puisaye and Berry (16th-19th century) with the inspiration of the "Talbot"
