"Mid-18th Century Painting Madonna With Child "
Beautiful oil painting on canvas, made on the first canvas and framed with a contemporary rectangular frame in carved and gilded wood. The painting represents a suggestive image of the Madonna with the baby Jesus inside an oval. The Madonna, with her head covered by a veil, wears red and blue clothes and, with one hand, supports her child, while with the other she holds the Sacred Heart, a symbol of deep divine devotion. The baby Jesus, standing and wrapped only in a cloth, raises a hand as a gesture of blessing. It is interesting to note that neither the Madonna nor the child have a drawn halo; their sacredness is instead suggested by the light that radiates around the figures in the oval. Of good quality and without significant restorations, it is attributed to a Neapolitan artist active in the mid-eighteenth century.
