Batavian type sword with its colichemarde blade engraved with mottos and coats of arms, 18th century. Very beautiful sword with its blade engraved on both sides with the arms and mottos of the family of WILLIAM IV of Orange and Nassau (1711 - 1751). Mottoes of the Order of the Garter (see photos) "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE" -- "VIVAT ORANGE" -- VIVAT LA GOURVERNANTE" -- "PRINCE THE GOVERNOR AND PRINCESS CAROLINE". (History: Henri Friso William IV, of Orange Nassau, born September 1, 1711 in Leeuwarden and died October 22, 1751 in The Hague. He is the second Prince of Orange of the cadet branch of Nassau-Dietz.) Bronze mount with short cap rectangular tail cut in an accolade with the base of riveting in the mass of elongated diamond shape. Guard branch resting at the bottom of the cap descending towards the guard cruise which it joins at right angles by subdividing into 4 symmetrical branches two by two arched in an "S" and resting on the guard cruise ending in a long quillon flat slightly arched towards the front. Rectangular section fuse filigree with a copper wire. Presence of the blade tie. Length: 97 cm Blade length: 82 cm Blade width at the heel: 3 cm Without scabbard.
