"Art Nouveau Trim"
Rare Art Nouveau period example of a Garniture made of chased bronze signed by Giovanni Cariati known as "Gicar" (1865-1917). Born in Naples in 1865, he taught himself the design of medals from 1903 and he organized exhibitions in Paris in 1906 and in Milan in 1909 before expatriating to America in New York in 1912 where he died on June 22, 1917. Taught himself the design of medals from 1903; he held exhibitions in Paris in 1906 and Milan in 1909 before coming to America and New York in 1912. He persuaded the American Numismatic Society to hold an exhibition of his work which opened on 11 December 1912. A catalogue was published by the Society (see 101 below).
