"Mouchette With Its Brass Tray With Stamped Edges "
"Mouchette" is a name that comes from "snuffer les chandelles", a medieval practice that consisted of removing the consumed and excess parts of the wicks of candles which were then made of hemp soaked in fat, they ended up carbonizing and giving off a black and nauseating smoke. To overcome this, here is the use of this snuffer which allows to remove its residues. Although the wicks have improved a lot over time, this device has survived over the centuries to end up as simple extinguishers as was undoubtedly the case with this 19th century model.
