The Indifferent - Bronze Nude By Hiroyuki Watanabe - Japan Circa 1930-40

An indifferent and nonchalant young girl.
Bronze with antique dark green patina. Gray marble (a chip on the back - see photo). Small wear, micro shocks. The fixing on the marble has a slight play.
Hiroyuki Watanabe was a graduate of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. Studied with Fumio Asakura, who provided French-style teaching, influenced by Rodin. His training is characteristic of the pre-war period: a strong influence of European and Greco-Roman sculpture.  He published numerous nudes and subjects, always in a very peaceful and sensual register. From 1933 he had a workshop near Nagasaki;
 Workshop part of the "petit Montparnasse" (workshop village near Nagazaki) - This district emerged on old wastelands, hence its nickname. of a poet who published “Ikebukuro Montparnasse” in a local newspaper; because at this period French art was the primary artistic reference.

His young daughters often have an indolent, even sulky air. He has created some outdoor sculptures (Shinjuku Tokyo district).
