Rare small baluster-shaped alcohol PITCHER, oblique straight foot and flared neck, fitted with a "stick" thumb.
Gauging hallmarks:
1° - small lily / PH. (initiales du jaugeur-contrôleur)
2° - L.(-). (initiales du jaugeur-contrôleur)
Stamped property mark: 2 roses / PLC
Height: 12.2 cm.
ROUEN, 18th century.


In very good condition.
These pitchers, when used in places open to the public, had to be tested periodically by the controllers-gaugers who checked that the pitcher offered "good measure" to the consumer and affixed a hallmark.
These little measures are rare, partly because they were used to measure alcohols that were less consumed than wine and partly because of their small size which predisposed them to their loss...
