"Adolphe Wilette: Fan Project "
Amusing fan project, engraved in imitation of red chalk, representing a Pierrot catching a naked nymph with a lasso in a decor of reeds and gorse. Adolphe Wilette (1857-1926) is one of the famous Montmartre artists of the 1900s, a student of Cabanel, who quickly turned away from painting, for drawing and engraving, and illustration. Famous for his posters, his participation in satirical newspapers, he is one of the souls of the Chat Noir, the cabaret of Rodolphe Salis. It is a fascinating mixture of humor, naughtiness, and painful satire. This sheet is framed in its original pass and baguette, which makes it a typical object of its time.
