L'enfant à la dentelle” group
Hard porcelain bisque
Engraved
Dimensions: H. 16.5; D. 14 (cm.)
Sèvres, 1818

Superb and rare cookie group depicting a lover seated on a rich armchair in the Consulat, Empire style. Zoomorphic front legs, saber-shaped back legs, crosspieces with scrapers, swan-shaped armrests and hemicycle back. Beautifully rendered drapery.

A popular model

This cookie group was probably created in 1812, according to the factory's archives. Given the short time between the birth of the King of Rome and the creation of this model, we can assume that it was a direct tribute from the Manufacture to the Bonapartes. This group was created by the repareur sculptor François Lemoine, and was a real success, as the sales outlet counted no fewer than 56 between 1814 and 1829. Ours was made by Liancé, whose payment he received via the accounting system the 30th of June. L'amour à la dentelle or amour au fauteuil is produced in several variants: all in blue, all in white, and the fauteuil in either shade. It should be noted that only five of these groups were sold in 1818, to a mainly Anglo-Saxon clientele.
