"Paul Jouve : "the Bear""
Paul Jouve (1878-1973): "The Bear", woodcut by Jean-Luc Perrichon for the illustration of "Paradis Terrestres" by Colette (1932). Proof on china 27 X 22 cm fixed on vellum 30 X 25 cm, in two tones black and gold, with highlights of black and gold ink, presented at the edge of the vellum in an Art-Deco frame in lightly whitewashed raw oak 42 X 37 cm. The immense artist that Jouve was used all sorts of techniques to bring to life a timeless menagerie so true that his line speaks to us immediately. Eagles, tigers, snakes, panthers or, as here, bears are represented with an accuracy that delights amateurs. Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone.
