Object description :

"Auguste Rigon (1850-1884) ''the Church Of Santa Maria Della Salute''"
Auguste Maillet, known as Rigon, born in 1855 in Mormant and died in 1884 in Reims, was a French painter and decorator for the Reims theatre. He was a student of Louis-Henri de Rudder, a history painter, genre painter and portraitist. In this painting, we can see the church of the Salute on the right and, in the distance, the tower of the Dogana which houses the customs offices. This view is one of the best known of the city, but the result here is radically different from that obtained by artists such as Canaletto or Bellotto, who seek to convince us of the accuracy of their representations. Auguste Rigon instead offers us the image of a real place transformed by his personal vision: the water sparkles, the surfaces shimmer, even the buildings seem immaterial.
