FRENCH ART 19th century Pierre Roch VIGNERON (1789-1872). Pierre Roch Vigneron, a renowned historical painter and portraitist, was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor for his contributions to art. Flattering portrait of the writer Évariste de Parny, then aged sixty, as a handsome, romantic and distinguished man. Dressed in an elegant navy blue frock coat, his multi-colored silk Creole scarf from Reunion Island is swept by the wind. This portrait is similar to a small portrait painted in 1831 by Vigneron of King Louis-Philippe I, a work preserved at the Carnavalet Museum. High-quality relining and restorations, painting presented in its original frame regilded with gold leaf, 1st Empire period. Évariste Désiré de Forges, Viscount de Parny (1753-1814) is the famous author of the "Elegies", the "Erotic Poems" and the "Madecasses Songs", he was nicknamed the French Tibulle. Parny's muse appears under the name Éléonore in his writings. She is the very beautiful and very young Creole Esther Lelièvre, his student who later became a poet herself. The Chevalier de Parny inspired Lamartine, Chateaubriand and Baudelaire, Alexander Pushkin considered him his master. In 1803 he became a member of the Académie Française and received a pension of 3000 francs from the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Signature lower left 'Vigneron' dated '1813'.
