"Book Cover, Tibet, 15th Century "
Large prayer book cover from a Tibetan monastery. These religious objects were brought during the second half of the 20th century when the Buddhist community migrated outside Tibet. The golden cover is carved with a vase of abundance in the center, surrounded by foliage, the rectangular border frames a succession of stylized lotus petals. The edge, traditionally, so that it is visible in the locker where the book is stored, is carved with a motif with in its center the "kirtimukha" mythical animal often represented in Tibetan iconography. Very good state of conservation considering the antiquity, around the 15th century.
