André Bressin, born in Le Havre in 1878 and died on December 17, 1918 in Switzerland, is a French animal painter, famous for his paintings of racehorses and jockeys. Auguste André Bressin Bibliography: French painter of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, his reputation was built around his figurative work of riders, in mainly sporting subjects (horse racing). He specialized in painting horses, in portraits or in genre scenes. We can also recognize, in the rough style that knows how to render the material, the artist's debt to his master Thomas Couture, although his compositions are inspired by Alfred de Dreux, Henri Auguste d'Ainecy Montpezat (1817-1859), John Frederick Herring Sr. and especially John Frederick Herring Jr. Bressin is one of the many painters of the 19th century, starting with Géricault, who devoted their art to the horse. He was notably an assistant professor of drawing at the École du Haras du Pin and produced many portraits of national stallions there. Well known in the sporting world, he exhibited each year, at the Concours Hippique show, portraits of racehorses that had made his talent appreciated by owners, breeders and connoisseurs.
