Exceptional Empire period secretary, attributed to Jacob Desmalter (1770 -1841) in mahogany and flamed mahogany veneer. It opens with a large flap controlled by a clover lock, revealing an arcature theater arranged with small drawers decorated with lion heads and a locker also closing with a clover lock. The uprights decorated with two large caryatids. A large drawer in the upper part. The lower part topped with a large drawer fitted with a clover lock. Magnificent base decorated with winged sphinxes in carved and lacquered wood in a patinated bronze style, rests at the front on claw feet in shank. Crotch top with rectangular top. Console bottom with mirror frame. White marble top Rich bronze fittings, very finely chiseled and gilded We find in part of the repertoire of Jacob Desmalter's creations, the same type of sphinx base, on a large flat desk, as well as on other very similar versions of this secretary. As for the caryatids, we also find them identically on the tripod base of a circular pedestal table, treated in larger dimensions, and also attributed to Jacob Desmalter.
