Born in Algeria to a family from Lyon, Louise Cottin was a student of Fernand Sabatté at the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was awarded a first second prize in Rome in 1934 with Ulysses chez la nymphe Calypso.
The Louise Cottin museum at the Château d'Hattonchâtel in Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel (where she lived) preserves some of her works.
