"Pair Of Retour d'Egypt Consoles With Winged Griffins Late 18th Century"
Important pair of consoles from the Retour D' Egypte period of the late 18th century of Sicilian origin. They have a sober and elegant line with a slightly flared upper band, with inlay in the central part and purfled at the end. The upper part is supported at the back by squared wooden planks and at the front by two finely carved zoomorphic figures depicting winged griffins, resting on a squared base which in turn rests on two large onion-shaped feet. The consoles were all made of slab and solid Apricot wood. The elegance and high quality of the carving workmanship performed by the Sicilian cabinetmakers who made them at the time should be highlighted. The consoles are in excellent condition and have been restored with conservative restoration personally by us, in our restoration laboratory.
