Pierre Yves TREMOIS 1921/2020
Pierre-Yves Trémois, born January 8, 1921 in Paris and died August 16, 2020 in Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, is a French designer, painter, engraver and sculptor. He was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts. Linked to a family of publishers close to artists (the Pierre Trémois editions), Pierre-Yves Trémois is the son of the man of letters Eugène Florimond "Edge" Trémois (1885-1963) and Yvonne Robiquet. On June 10, 1978, he married Catherine Lelièvre de Latouche. After secondary studies at the Janson-de-Sailly high school, he joined the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris where he was a student of Fernand Sabatté.
In 1943, he won the first grand prix de Rome for painting. He then devoted himself to engraving with a burin and etching. He was a resident of the Casa de Velázquez from 1951 to 1952 in Madrid where he joined the 22nd class of artists. He died at the age of 99, on August 16, 20204 in Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche. Works: Pierre-Yves Trémois created: graphic works: paintings, engravings (his work is estimated at more than a thousand engravings7), drawings, where the line dominates; “Great Illustrated Books” with authors Henry de Montherlant, Jean Rostand, Federico Fellini, Tournier, Paul Claudel, Jean Giono, Nietzsche… published by Gallimard, Flammarion, Laffont, J. Foret, Lefebvre… sculptures in polished bronze and patinated bronze, representing animals and humans; ceramics engraved in clay and enameled; objects and jewelry in engraved gold.
Pierre-Yves Trémois is an officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honor and Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters. He is the oldest member by election (from 2012) and the oldest member by age (from March 25, 2014) of the Academy.
