"Chestnut Cabinet With Carved And Nail-enhanced Decor"
Rare chestnut cabinet coming from the Morbihan region, Bretagne, France. 18th century. Sculpted decorations of animals, vegetation, two riders facing each other, harlequins and other subjects. The whole is enhanced by nails to highlight the different sculpted subjects.The subject being devoured on the upper central part is an allegory of the expression Memento mori is a Latin phrase which literally means "Have in mind, in the thought that you die...", that is to say, "Remember that you die". A memento mori also refers to an object or action intended to recall the memory of one or more deceased.
It opens with two doors framed by uprights with flat ribs.
