Oil on canvas signed lower right. Dimensions of the canvas 80x65cm, 105x90cm with its carved wooden frame. Very beautiful and large still life by Jean Laurent Challié. The artist, a student at the Beaux Arts in Paris and Gérome, close to Dufy and Picabia (whose brother-in-law he became) was highly appreciated by critics before and after the Great War of 14-18. Known in Brittany for his representations of the Ploumanach region, where he stayed regularly, he remained faithful to an intimate and poetic post-impressionism with interior scenes and still lifes that are reminiscent of his friend Vuillard, the only one whose affinities with his work he admitted.
