"Telescope Lorgnette By Lerebours 1805-1814"
Lorgnette or small travel telescope with six draws and built in brass and silver-plated copper and ivory. The instrument is doubly signed on the eyepiece and the first draw "Lerebours Opten de l'Empur et Roi" and "Place du Pont Neuf à Paris". Napoleon was crowned King of Italy on March 17, 1805, so we can date the lorgnette between March 1805 and April 1814, the date of its deposition. The instrument is in good used condition but the draws have lost their sliding due to friction and have therefore become loose and do not hold when developed. The optics give a clear image. The lorgnette measures 3.6/12cm in length and 5.6cm in diameter at its widest point. Good early signature for the Lerebours family.
