"Symbolist Female Bust - Alonzo"
A French sculptor representative of the Art Deco period, Dominique Alonzo was a student of the sculptor Alexandre Falguière (1831-1900). She exhibited her works in 1912 and 1926 at the Salon de la Société des Artistes Français. Her detailed statuettes mainly show historicist female figures always richly coiffed and adorned, in turn in neo-symbolist, troubadour, Japanese and orientalist styles. Her chryselephantine works in bronze and ivory were published by Edmond Etling in Paris. They most often rest on marble bases, like our delicate bust of a young woman in a meditative and mysterious posture.
