Charming, lively lakeside landscape, built around a fairly pronounced diagonal. In the foreground, two elegant women and a man accompanying them, responding to a second trio in the background. A beautiful, animated landscape, echoing the clichés of Northern Italy.
Jacques Michel Denis (de) Lafontaine
A painter listed as early as the Consulate, he is credited with creating the first panoramic wallpapers. He exhibited regularly at the Salons between 1796 and 1833. He opened a studio in 1831.
In this work, we find the qualities of finesse required in the work of a fan maker, a specialty that occupied the artist in the latter part of his life.
