The Madonna of the Temples, 17th century follower of RAPHAEL (1483-1520) Raphael A large 17th century Italian Renaissance depiction of the Madonna of the Temples, oil on panel. A depiction of the 'Madonna of the Temples' of excellent quality and condition, titled after the Tempi family who commissioned the composition in 1508, later purchased by Ludwig I of Bavaria. The execution and pigments are almost identical to Raphael's, suggesting an accomplished 17th century painter who was commissioned to paint the work or was undertaken by a painter as part of his training to attempt to reproduce Raphael's work.
