On the back of the montage, stamps and annotations. Hippolyte BAYARD is a pioneer of photography, in March 1839, he developed a process allowing him to obtain direct positives on paper. But the French state favored the discovery of the daguerreotype and his contribution remains unknown. He then decided to stage himself as a drowned man. He will produce many self-portraits. - Photo format 22.5 x 17 cm - Mounting format 43.5 x 35.5 cm. - Under mat 40x50cm A print by Claudine Sudre of this calotype is present in the collection of the Nicephore Niepce Museum in Chalons-sur-Soane
