"A Bronze Model Of The Medici Lion. Italian, 19th Century. "
A large patinated bronze sculpture of the Medici lion, after the marble version executed by Flaminio Vacca around 1594 for the entrance of the Villa Medici in Rome, and moved in 1789 to the loggia dei Lanzi in Florence. The lion holds under its paw a sphere in gilded bronze, in reference to the six balls constituting the arms of the House of Medici.
Resting on an oval gilt-wood base.
