Oil on canvas 27x41 cm "Le déjeuner sur l'herbe" 1876
Signed and dedicated lower right, dated lower left
Born in Montpellier, Eugène Baudouin followed the teaching of Gérome at the Beaux Arts in Paris.
He regularly exhibited large panoramic landscapes and impressionist genre scenes in the Parisian Salons.
His paintings are in many museums, particularly in the south of France.
Dated 1876, from the first impressionist period, our "déjeuner sur l'herbe" is clearly a reference to Monet's painting of 1866, who himself had taken up Manet's famous theme.
This version by Eugène Baudouin, intended for the Mavaleix family, which he stages in the impressionist spirit, by the subject and a very lively touch, is characteristic of his works influenced by Impressionism.
