Large Gilded Iron Empire Chandelier with Crystals Sixteen Lights Circa 1780, monumental antique salon chandelier, late 1700s chandelier of Piedmontese origin, the region of northern Italy bordering France, from the Empire era, handmade of iron and crystal in excellent condition. The circular frame is made of forged iron embellished with cast iron foliate volutes, palmettes and floral ornaments.
Lovely mecca gilded finish, the lights are arranged in two tiers of heights, eight curved cast iron arms with double scrolls, decorated with foliate and zoomorphic motifs showing an eagle, are arranged on the central crown. Additional eight lights are placed on elaborate candelabra with scrolls, pyramidal castings inserted in a bayonet shape on the top of the larger major crown.
The upper crown is adorned with curved palmette castings, a cascade of chains and crystal festoons complete this elegant chandelier createdat the end of the 18th century for candlelighting large halls.
This Piedmontese chandelier comes from a private Italian villa, has been fully disassembled, cleaned and re-electrified to European standards, it works with 16 E14 bulbs.
The final ball has been added, the last photo shows the chandelier hanging in the private villa, lacking the end ball.
Chain and ceiling cup are missing, but can customize upon request.
