"Bronze Miners By Emile Carlier (1849-1927)"
Bronze sculpture of a miner with wheelbarrow and pickaxe signed Emile Carlier. Emile Joseph Nestor Carlier (1849 - 1927) was a student at the Academies of Cambrai and Valenciennes, then at Jouffroy, Cavalier and Chapu at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He made his debut at the Salon in 1875, won the Gold Medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889, and the Medal of Honor in Antwerp and Amsterdam. There are many bronzes representing allegories, genre scenes and busts. Many of these works are in the Museums of Bordeaux, Lyon, Cambrai and Paris at the Petit Palais and Palais Garnier. Through this bronze, we can guess the difficulty and rigor of the miner's profession, we can read the harshness of this profession in the features of the face.
