The box is oval, in plain silver. The interior is in light vermeil.
The lid is engraved with a large and superb coat of arms under a marquis' crown, resting on a terrace with a lion and a dog, symbols of strength and loyalty as supporters, accompanied by a phylactery inscribed with the Latin motto "Simile simili gaudet".
The coat of arms can be emblazoned as follows: "gold with a flower drawn au naturel, with a chief azure charged with three gold stars".
The inside of the lid is also engraved with a coat of arms, under a count's crown, which can be emblazoned: "azure with a silver saltire, accompanied in chief and in base by a silver star".
The first coat of arms is in its style and manner, older, probably from the first half of the 19th century. It is very decorative, with many exterior elements: supporters, motto, terrace, garlands of flowers. The line is soft and free.
The second, later, probably dates from the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century. The drawing is much more "technical" and "effective".
Unfortunately, I was unable to identify the families bearing these arms.
The box is hallmarked with a swan, a later French control hallmark.
Superb box with two magnificent engraved coats of arms, each in a style specific to its time.
