"Marine, Louis François Cabanes"
Painting, oil on canvas, representing a lighthouse at the end of the pier. Signed lower right. Circa 1930 unframed. Louis, François Cabanes (1867-1947) was born in Montauban and died in Paris. He followed the advice of Bourdelle, whom he met again in Paris and with whom he remained friends all his life. He obtained a scholarship from the city to enter the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse. Then he subsequently obtained a scholarship to go up to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He entered the studio of Gérome then of Gustave Moreau. He followed the advice of Jean Paul Laurens. He obtained a silver medal at the Salon de la Nationale in 1890. He traveled a lot: Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Spain. His Art was enriched following his stay in Algeria. He participated in the Salon des Atistes français from 1895 to 1937. He won the gold medal at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1927. He participated in the colonial exhibition in Paris in 1906 and the Brussels exhibition in 1910. Louis Cabanes was successively a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts, inspector of drawing education in the city of Paris, and president of the Société des Artistes Français. He was also president of the Ingres society.
