"Fireplace Plaque With The Alliance Arms Of Joseph De Vaux And Anne Désirée Pourtier (99x97cm)"
17th century fireplace plate, very beautifully made and in perfect condition, with the arms of Joseph de Vaux known as d'Alepy, (? - after 1687) squire, lord of Marnoz, Bran, etc. and Anne Désirée Pourtier, (? - after 1687) married in 1676. Son of Joachim and Jeanne de Buade and daughter of Charles and Didière Mouret. Or of their son Jean-Baptiste, who died without posterity from his marriage to Marie-Armande-Josephine de Vallin. This plate almost certainly comes from the Marnoz castle located in the Vache valley, on the left bank of the stream of the same name. This building remained in the family from the second half of the 16th century until 1752, the date of the death of Madeleine Gabrielle de Vaux, Joseph's last daughter, married to Charles François Pillot de Chenecey. The plaque had to leave the castle during the sale of national assets in 1796. The Alepys, settled in Salins in Franche-Comté and ennobled by Philip II of Spain in 1592, have borne the arms of the de Vaux since the marriage of Gaspard Alepy with Hippolyte de Pontalier, in 1613, on the occasion of which, his uncle, François de Vaux, donated all his assets to him, on condition that he take his name and arms and pass them on to his descendants. Thiebaut Portier left the old arms of his house, around 1484, to take those of his mother, Jaquette de Voiteur, adding two antique keys sable, arms present on our plaque. Coat of arms: Per pale azure, three Albanian hats of gold, each tied with a gules cord, 2 and 1, (which is of Vaux) and gules, with a silver bend, charged with three azure fusils and accompanied by two keys also of silver, one at the top and the other at the base, (which is of Portier). The shield is topped with a count's crown and encircled with palms tied with a ribbon knot. The plaque displays two Franche-Comté columns as an emblem of belonging. This plaque was found in Pagney in the Jura. It weighs 157 kg. Sources: - Dictionary of the nobility: containing the genealogies, history and chronology of the noble families of France.
