"Rare Louis XV Period Stone Basin Or Cooler"
Rare basin or cooler in stone from Saint Cyr au Mont d'Or, from the Louis XV period, in perfect condition, cut "in the shape of a kidney", inscribed in a half-moon recess. Its molded edges in ogee are shaped with knocked angles. Its original fountain has been carefully restored and covered with a tray of the same nature. Its bronze plug acts as a siphon. The dimensions of the basin are 61 cm long by 35 cm wide by 8 cm deep. These coolers for some, like the one presented, were placed on furniture in the entrance halls of Lyon apartments and allowed ablutions to residents returning from the city. Pierre de Saint Cyr au Mont d'Or (Rhône): With shades ranging from grey to black (the most popular) or ochre with purple veins, the particularity of this stone is the inclusion of gryphea, mother-of-pearl colour (mollusc close to the oyster having lived from the Upper Triassic to the Cretaceous, −237 to −65 million years ago).
