"Lobi Amulet Burkina Faso Early 20th Century"
Beautiful anthropomorphic bronze/brass amulet showing a character with his hands on his stomach, the female genitals and navel, in relief. A suspension ring on the side to wear it as a pendant. See the photo of the child photographed in the Lobi village of Sépidouo in December 1981. One of the rare Lobi villages where there was still a founder. (photo taken from the book by André Blandin "Bronzes et autres alliages" page 94). Pages 95 of the same book we find a plate of drawings representing amulets similar to this one. "These anthropomorphic figurines are individual amulets made according to the instructions of the spirits (Thila) for the protection of men, women and children (considered more vulnerable) against evil spirits.
