Comment: elegant sculpture in patinated and gilded bronze representing "Desdemona", a remarkable figure from the play "Othello or the Moor of Venice" by the famous William Shakespeare (1564-1616).
Daughter of the Venetian senator Brabantio, she marries Othello against her father's wishes and follows him to Cyprus.
There she falls victim to the intrigues of Iago, who places a handkerchief belonging to him in Cassio's apartments to make Othello believe that his wife is cheating on him.
Desdemona may claim her innocence, but Othello refuses to believe her and kills her by suffocation in the last act.
Condition: good condition, some wear to the patina (see photographs).
