IV René-Marie Castaing (1896-1943): "Sainte Ursula", charcoal and white chalk on kraft paper 61 X 42 cm, presented under neutral pH mat 80 X 60 cm. Japanese lined, upper right corner restored, water stain at the top left. First Grand Prix de Rome 1924, the immense artist excelled particularly in works on paper: charcoals, pastels or gouaches. If I never met him for obvious reasons of dates, his birthplace was just opposite the Galerie de Pau! With a sensitivity that allowed him to capture the soul of his models, he gives us here a study of Saint Ursula for the Church of Notre-Dame-du-Bout-du-Pont in Pau.
