"Pair Of Louis XIV Period Candlesticks"
Very rare pair of gilded bronze candlesticks, from the Louis XIV period. The mouth in the shape of a gadrooned vase, displays respectively on the 4 faces a decoration of fire pots on 2 of them, of eagle and rooster on the other 2. The cut sides with decoration of fleurs-de-lys or diamonds. The lower bulge, acanthus leaves and plant interlacing. The shaft, bears 4 medallions with the effigy of Roman emperors under which a decoration of knotted ribbons suspends military attributes such as quivers, shields, standards, swords and laurel leaves. On the lower part, we find a gadrooned and scalloped molding. The foot, on its upper part, shows a beautiful example of a festoon called "à la BERAIN", separated by a flat part, the lower molding takes up a rich decoration of military attributes, on each different side and medallions with emperor profiles on the cut sides. All the design made on these candlesticks is reminiscent of the work of Jean BERAIN. The theme of military glory is largely represented on each of the faces and suggests that this is a prestigious order. Lost wax manufacturing of great finesse of realization. Drillings and traces of electrification, regilded, wear.
