The oldest example referenced is dated 1769 [Horat 1986, p.170]. It bears on the chest, like ours, an anepigraphic seal (a collar medal?), but the tail is trumpet-shaped, very widely flared. Our example, with its cord separation at mid-body and its straight tail, corresponds to the typology of the end of the 18th century [ibid., p.171].
