19th century European work
Steel and gilt bronze
Total length: 26 ; L.: 5.5 cm
Blade length: 13.5 cm
This romantic dagger, also called a dagger of virtue, is made of steel and gilded bronze, worked in the round. The openwork spindle features a large hemmed climbing plant, at the foot of which a dragon terraces a snake. The guard, with two straight quillons, is animated by the coiling of the serpent's body. The scabbard is entirely decorated on both sides with leafy foliage on a sandy background, featuring a chimera, and ends in a pine cone.
The straight, double-edged steel blade with grooves ends in a point. Suspension ring.
