Object description :

"A Herd In The Highlands By Edward Hargitt"
Large oil on canvas depicting a herd of Cattles, local cattle in a Highland landscape, at the water's edge. The painter rendered the nobility of these large and peaceful animals as well as the romantic character of the landscape, with its tormented sky. Edward Hargitt (1835-1865) was both an ornithologist, member of the Zoological Society, author of scientific works, but also a talented painter, trained in Scottish landscapes by Horatio Mac Culloch. There is something very powerful, eternal in this harsh Scottish nature. It should be noted that the cowherd is in a traditional kilt. The painting needs to be restored, a tear in the sky and an old restoration of a few centimeters to turn) but the general whole of the painting is in good condition. The frame is original, but it is preferable to change it. I can possibly have the painting restored (extra, quote on request). Canvas width: 76cm Canvas height: 50cm
