"Port Of Martigues “the Bird Mirror” By Aglevert "
French School 20th century. Oil on panel representing the port of Martigues named the Brescon quay called the bird mirror which has become the favorite place of painters since the end of the 19th century. In the district of the island, the bird mirror constitutes an enchanting urban decor. This splendid body of water decorated with a flotilla of pointus with lateen sails and bordered by old fishermen's houses with painted facades, classified since 1942, this place has fascinated many painters such as Delacroix, Coron, Loubon, Ziem or Dufy. This painting represents the atmosphere of this port with fishermen on their boats and men on the quay. We can distinguish through this painting all the depth and all the luminosity of this picturesque place. The light is bright between sky and water and declines an infinite variety of colors. A place with a very bucolic aspect that leaves us dreaming. This painting by AGLevert is inspired by a painting by Charles Henri Verbrugghes, a Belgian painter (1877-1974), who was an artist faithful to the post-impressionist who liked to stay on the Cote d'Azur. CHVerbrugghes knew Monet, Renoir, Degas, and also Utrillo and met Picasso. Perfect condition, frame dimensions 125 x 82 cm. (non-original frame, awaiting a possible new frame).
