"Septarian Nodule On Foot"
Beautiful cross section of a septarian nodule on a metal stand. Septarian nodules are fossilized mud bubbles that are 50-70 million years old. Belgium is one of the main sites for the discovery of these objects. Scientists disagree on the origin of the shape of the interior. One possibility is the expansion/contraction of the spheres by the gas inside that cannot escape. This specimen is large. The color palette is fantastic, with grayish, earthy, and sandy areas that create a calming atmosphere.
