Large 19th century games box allowing you to play: - "chess" on the upper side of the closed box; - inside and unfolded with the 3 well-known playing possibilities: "jaquet", "backgammon" and "tric-trac" of the same nature but more sophisticated. The reason for using such a box of these games, very popular and very fashionable by the nobility in particular until the French Revolution - which banned them (game tables included) - was to offer at all times the possibility to whoever wanted to play in company, in all places, without these well-known tables, sometimes guides in hand for some.
This large box is complete with 62 pieces, two beautiful leather cups, 2 old dice :
- 30 round pieces are made up of 15 black and 15 light;
- 32 chess pieces in light and black boxwood of 9cm for the largest (kings and queens).
Box in excellent condition of its woods: Walnut casing and precious wood veneers for the exterior, colored veneers on a black background for indoor games.
