"A Russian Tea Set, Imperial Porcelain Manufactory, St. Petersburg, Catherine The Great"
Cylindrical with angular handles, each piece is painted with a continuous frieze of pastoral figures in landscapes between gilt line borders. To the shoulder, there is a band of trailing cornflowers above a black line border. The set comprises a pot and cover, a sugar bowl and cover, a jug, two cups and saucers, and a caddy with a cover, all marked with underglaze blue Imperial cipher marks. The pot and cover measure 25.5 cm in height. (11 pcs)
The shapes and design of the peasant figures appear to be inspired by Vienna porcelain prototypes. For a comparable I.P.M. bottle cooler of the same pattern and period, see Sotheby's, London, 25 November 2014, lot 479.
