"Portrait XVII Attributed To Michel Hubert Descours"
This is a majestic 18th century French portrait of a man holding a snuffbox. The work measures 92 cm high by 73 cm wide. We submitted this portrait to STEPHANE PINTA of Cabinet Turquin; he considers it highly likely that this work is by Michel Hubert Descours. Michel Hubert Descours (1707–1775) was a French painter known for his detailed portraits and genre scenes, often focusing on scenes from everyday life and the bourgeoisie of his time. He worked primarily in Lyon, where he was part of a thriving artistic community. Descours successfully combined elements of Rococo and Classicism, using refined technique and a keen eye for subtle expressions in his subjects' faces. This work has great potential and would benefit from a thorough restoration. The portrait is still on its original canvas and has undergone some previous local restorations. This painting is sold unframed, and transport is the responsibility of the buyer.
