Low wool,Fine antique carpet. Circa 1920.
Roll out the red carpet is an expression that means to welcome warmly. It is a way of making the passage of a guest a real ceremony. Red is the color used to characterize the solemnity of the event.
In its first known incarnation, the red carpet was not intended for ordinary people. A dark red tapestries path was rolled out in ancient Greece, in Aeschylus' play Agamemnon, when Clytemnestra, the king's vengeful wife, prepares to triumphantly welcome her husband from the Trojan War.
A real centerpiece in a luxurious interior such as a hotel or a castle.
Size : 472x94 cm
Condition : used, wear and tear = shades in the red (and 2 marked red lines) on one of the final parts of the carpet which is more visible in one direction than in the other. It is a very old and very fine carpet, in its original condition.
